strikeout.nu Berhampur (IPA: /bərɵmpu:r/) or Brahmapur is a city located on the eastern coastline of Ganjam district of the Indian state of Odisha in East India, about 169km(105 mi) south of the state capital Bhubaneshwar and 255km(158mi) north of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Nicknamed "The Silk City", it is famous for its silk saris, temples and unique culture. It is one of the oldest and biggest cities of Odisha. The city is a municipal corporation having a population of 355,823 as of the 2011 Census of India (provisional) without agglomeration,[1] making it the fourth most populous urban city in Odisha state[1] and 126th in India. The city is situated at 19° 20’ N Latitude 84° 50’ E Longitude. Its average elevation above Mean Sea Level is 24m. To cater the growing demand of the nearby industries, port and upcoming industrial park the development authority of Brahmapur has planned to build a new city at Sitalapalli village called "Berhampur North City" which will be situated in close proximity to the new airport, the district headquarters, the port and Gopalpur SEZ by Tata.
